A UK’s new plan to activate a new travel authorization scheme for EU citizens from the next year

According to the UK’s new travel scheme and announcement, EU citizens from the 27 European Union Member States visiting the UK will be required to apply for Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) beginning next year, and they will be charged 12 euros for an ETA to travel to the UK.

Everyone was unclear about the cost of a UK ETA, but the UK Visas and Immigration Department of the Home Office said on June 7th that the ETA would cost 10 euros, with a two- year validity period. If your passport expires within the next two years, you must apply for a new one.

The authorities have also disclosed the dates on which residents from various nations across the world must apply for travel authorization to visit the UK. We still don’t know when EU citizens will need to obtain ETAs to travel to the UK. The UK Visas and Immigration Department, on the other hand, has said unequivocally that QATARI nationals will be the first to be requested for an ETA upon entering the UK. They will have to begin applying on November 15th, 2023. Nationals from other Persian Gulf Arab states, including Jordan, Bahrain, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, will be admitted to the plan on February 22, 2024.

EU nationals and travelers from the United States, New Zealand, Australia, and other remaining nations who are permitted to visit the UK without a visa for business and tourism purposes will be required to apply for an ETA next year, with dates to be published shortly.

It is also worth noting that Ireland is the only country that will be excluded from this scheme. Meanwhile, nationals from visa-free nations who are permitted to live, work, or study in the UK will not need an ETA. Those coming from countries that are not excluded from requiring a UK visa must still apply for a business or tourist visa to enter the country.

Following its separation from the EU, the United Kingdom chose to implement a travel permission regime. The European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) was also implemented by EU authorities. ETIAS will also go into action next year. ETIAS is additionally required for UK citizens. The EU seeks to make this system mandatory for all visa- free countries citizens.

The EU authorization to travel will cost applicants 7 euros and will be valid for three years.
