UK government prohibits international students from bringing their families with them. The step was implemented to restrict the country’s immigration population.
The Government of the United Kingdom on Tuesday released a new immigration policy, targeting overseas students enrolled in British Universities.
Briefly stated the new policy limits international students’ ability to bring their families into the nation from beyond its borders. But only specific student groups are subject to the rule. The exceptions in this situation are the students who are enrolled in post-graduate research programs. Even though the policy does not work for the other international students, they are nevertheless permitted to bring their families.
“This package includes: removing the right for international students to bring dependants unless they are on postgraduate courses currently designated as research programs,” said Suella Braverman.

The policy is blatantly aimed to restrict and lower the migration population of the United Kingdom. Though the intention remains, like the truth unsplattered, the government’s statement says otherwise.
The former immigration policy enabled international students to bring their parents, grandparents, and dependents, as well as stay in the UK for a set period of time, say 24 months, till they completed their education.
Government officials claimed that the system had flaws since many people utilized their education as justification for immigrating with their families. This loophole has been now shut down by a government run by twice an immigrant, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Suella Braverman, who herself has immigrant roots.
“We have seen an unprecedented rise in the number of student dependants being brought into the country with visas. It is time for us to tighten up this route to ensure we can cut migration numbers and meet the government’s pledge to the British people to cut net migration,” said Braverman.
“There were 135,788 visas granted to dependants last year, a rise from 54,486 in 2021, and more than seven times the 19,139 granted in 2020.
These figures have increased since study visa requirements for European Economic Area (EEA) students were introduced after Brexit.” according to the news report by Economic Times.

Thus, the decision has been made to regulate legal immigration to the UK. The other officials claim that the attempt to decrease immigration by obtaining visas won’t be successful since overseas students studying in the UK won’t be much impacted by the scheme.
The British Conservative Party continues to struggle with immigration policies despite having strict regulations and making an electoral promise to cut down on immigration.
The failure to reduce the migration count, if discussed based on the conspiracy theory, could be, or maybe because the government actually does not want to, considering the fact that Mr.Sunak’s family is truly Indian.
