Japan and European Union reject the US proposal for an export ban on Russia

Japan and European Union had refused the proposal of the export ban on Russia; saying it is not feasible

The Group of Seven (G7) is considering a plan to impose a total export embargo on Russia to show solidarity with Ukraine, which Russia invaded 15 months ago. However, Japan and the European Union are said to be resistant to this plan.

The G7 summit is scheduled to take place in Hiroshima, Japan from May 19th to May 21st, 2023. The United States has suggested a proposal to ban all exports to Russia, including medical and agricultural products, in anticipation of the upcoming summit.

The war between Russia and Ukraine began on February 24, 2022, as a consequence of Ukraine’s discernible engagement with NATO. Russia has been strongly criticized by countries all over the world since then, including the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Germany, France, and Italy.
“We stand with Ukraine and will continue to hold Russia accountable for its aggression.” said Joe Biden, President of the United States, amid war, 2022.

In addition, other economic and diplomatic penalties were placed to hold Russia accountable for the invasion. Amid this turmoil, the US is planning to submit a strategy that will persuade the other G7 countries to similarly block all shipments to Russia. In a manner, the United States offers this strategy to avenge the hardships that Ukraine endured as a result of the conflict.

Despite the pressing efforts of the United States, Japan, and the European Union had rebuffed the proposal, arguing that doing so would be practically impossible because it would not be feasible. Even after the refusal, the US maintains its position and has stated that it would hold Russia accountable for the war.

While it is true that the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine has not yet led to any direct military confrontations with other nations, it is crucial to understand that this conflict has significant implications for regional and global security. Furthermore, as long as the conflict continues, regardless of the accusations, Russia continues to be unthreatened by other nations because it is still at war with Ukraine and shows no signs of ceasing.
